. Workers have very few rights, if any, they are unable to change jobs or join a trade union.

. There are 3,000 North Koreans working there, the North Korean government takes 70% of their wages and the workers end up receiving just 10% of their wages - a modern form of slavery.

. Poor working conditions for many, there were reports of industrial accidents.

. Huge differences in wages paid to women and immigrants (women get 75% of wages that males do)

. Rapid growth has led to poor workmanship and some constructions such as department stores and bridges have collapsed.

. Increased competition has meant trade agreements between South Korea and Japan has decreased. South Korean banks were left with huge debts in 1997 when world trade faltered.
