What did China do in 1978
After the chairman died the new leader adopted a new regime to open its doors to the world
What’s changed since 1978
Infrastructure improved massively, population less staggered, more highly paid jobs, remarkable achievements but also increased unemployment, growing income gaps, environmental degradation, corruption and criminality
What happened to China’s demographics
In the50s they introduced a pro natal ist policy where they encouraged children. In 79 they then added the one child policy
How many rural to urban migrants have there been in recent years
In 2009 ther were 145 million.
Social benefits in China
Life expectancy increased from 45-75. Literacy rates improved from 15-80%.
Economic success of China
Gdp = 11.1 trillion, gdp growing by 6.9% per annum.
What happened to China’s environment
70% of lakes and rivers are now polluted. 360 million don’t have access to clean water.
