Copayment
The share of medical costs for which the insured patient is responsible.
Pharmacology
The study of drugs and their actions.
Prescription
An order to dispense a medication that specifies the drug, dosage, frequency, and amount of nedication to be given.
Compliance
Taking a medication accurately, according to its directions for use.
Dispense
To provide medication as prescribe by a physician or other qualified person.
Retail pharmacy
A facility that supplies prescription and nonprescription medication to customers in a particular community. Located in a drugstore, medical building, or grocery store
Eligibility
Satisfaction of all of an insurance company’s requirements to become qualified to recieve insurance benefits
Pharmaceutical care
Services that improve a patients health through the alpropriate use of medications
OTC
Over the counter
Refers to the nonprescribition medications that can be purchased in most drugstores and supermarkets
Narcotic
A drug that suppresses the central nervous system to relieve pain; can be habbit-forming
Accounts receivable
Money owned by a customer or other debtor on a current debt.
Accounts payable
Money owned by a business to creditors such as suppliers or other businesses.
Customer service
Courteous assistance to a customer as determined by his or her needs.
Deductible
An amount that must be paid by the patient or customer before the insurance company will pay any benefits. There are usually individual deductible amounts and total amount for the family that mist be met.
Insurance
A contract made betwenn two people or two groups of people in which one agreesto provide certain specified health benefits to the other.
Medicare
Federal insurance provided to people over the age 65 those who have persmanent kidney failure and people with certain disabilities. This is the fastest growing group of insured people. Coverage usually is very specific.
Formulary
A list of drugs for whoch an insurance company has aggrees to provide partical or total reimbursement; a list of drugs thay a hospital commonly stocks.
Controlled substance
Drugs defined and regulated by the controlled substance act of 1970 including narcotics hallucinogens, depressants and stimulants.
