Precautions

A

Because changes in levels of consciousness can change rapidly in pts with hypoglycemia, it is important to ascertain the pt’s ability to swallow an oral preparation of glucose w/o airway compromise

Dosages / Administration

A
  1. ADULT: Squeeze Glucose from the tube on tongue depressor and insert between cheek and gum. Alternatively Let pt squeeze the solution into his/her own mouth to swallow.
  2. PEDS: Titrate to effect
