Who wrote the 4 Gospels?
Mathew, Mark, Luke and John
What is the purpose of having 4 Gospels?
- To show different aspects of Jesus’ life, through different point of views. 2. Some show Jesus as a God or king, and others portray him as a servant or son.
- Each gospel is written to a different audience, and focuses on what that specific audience would get drawn to God by. They also focuss on different point in jesus’ life and have more or less details at different points of his life.
Define: Abraham
Abraham is the spiritual ancestar of all believers, regardless of whether they are jewish or non-jewish.
Define: Hebrew
a member of an ancient people living in what is now israel and palestine.
Define: New Testament
The second part of the bible and inside is the fullilment opf the promise of the old testament.
Define: Old Testament
the first part fo the christian bible, compromisinng 39 books. Written between about 1200 and 100 BC. tells us about the life before jesus christ is born.
What are the four stages of developement?
- the peoples expirience of God
- The developemnets of an understanding of what these expiriences meant.
- the inspiration of writers who recorded these understandings
- The selection of inspired texts and the discarding of inacurate nd non essential texts
Define: Biblical Fundementalism
Takeing a literal approach to reading where instead of seeing stories and lessons, all is fact, often leads to misinterpretation.
Show an example of Biblical Fundamentalism
E.g the world and humans created in seven days, Adam/ Eve.
Define: Synoptic
means giving an account of the events from the same point of view.
E.g: the examples of Mark mathew Luke and John
Define: Samaritan:
a samaritan is believed to be a kind or nice person, To be a “good samaritan”.
Define: Gentile
An individual who is not jewish
Define: Messiah
A leader regarded as the saviour of a particular country, group or cause. The promised deliverer of the jewish nation, prophesised in the hebrew bible.
Define: Genealogy
A line of descent traced continuously from an ancestor
Define: Pharisee
A member of an ancient Jewish sect, distinguished by strict observance of the tradtional and written law and comonly held to have pretencions to superior sancity.
Why is it important to understand the gospel context?
it is important because it adresses local issues, questions, and challenges showing how gods word applies to everyday life.
Types of literary forms:
While primarily narritive, it also incorporates elements of ancient biography, keregmanic lecture and historical narrative.
