Who were the federalists and the Anti-Federalists?
Federalists supported the constitution and wanted power government. Anti didn’t support constitution, wanted to keep government weak
What was the 3/5ths compromise?
Slaves count as 3/5ths of a person for taxation and representation.
What was the Connecticut or great compromise?
The house of representatives would be based on population, and the Senate would be based on statehood
What were the differences between the Virginia plan and the New Jersey plan?
The Virginia plan favored large states. the New Jersey plan favored small states
What were some of the weaknesses in the articles of Confederation?
No powered to collect taxes, regulate trade, or enforce laws. no court system, only one house of Congress, no practical ways to amend
What did America do to create a stronger government in the 1780s?
Called for a constitutional convention to revise the articles of confederation
What were the outcomes of the first and second continental Congresses?
First was a boycott second was declaration of independence/establish first US government
What were the Britain’s colonial policies and how did the colonist react to them?
Created taxes and laws. Colonist wanted no taxation without representation.
What basic concepts of government were held by American colonists?
Ordered government, limited government, representative government.
Which important English documents have had the most influence on our government?
Magna Carta, petition of rights, English bill of rights.
