What is a general election
An election held every 5 years to elect different representatives of different parties from constituencies throughout the country
What is a by election
an election held in a single political constituency to fill a vacancy arising during a government’s term of office.
What is an local government
the administration of a particular county or district, with representatives elected by those who live there.
Local government elections take place at least every 4 years.
What is a police and crime commissioner
A uniformed member of staff who will be called for if there is an emergency and will help. They have no official police power

Yes the black rod only is important during a state visit, so it’s role is cerimonial

A theocracy government is where the country is run by a religious leader. E.g.Iran

What are agencies
Organisations and bodies that are part of a major institution: for example the UN or EU
What are non-governmental organisations (NGOs)
Non profit, voluntary citizens’ groups which are organised on a local, national or international level. Task oriented and run by people with a common interest, NGOs perform a variety of services and humanitarian functions.
What is the the council of Europe
founded in 1949 and is an intergovernmental organisation whose aims are to promote human rights, democracy, and the rule of law within its 47 member states. This body established the European Convention on Human Rights.
European Convention on Human Rights
a convention that lays down basic human rights. It is based upon the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR], and is overseen by the Council of Europe.
What is the commonwealth charter
A document that lays down the principles associated with commonwealth membership
What is the European Commission
Appointed officials from member countries of the EU who draft policy initiatives and direct the workings of the EU
