What is GOVERNMENT?
A system of running a country or state
What is DEMOCRACY?
Is government by all of the people. All citizens above a certain age get to vote. They have laws to protect Human Rights.
What is a PARLIAMENT?
A council of members that make laws & decisions with a King or Queen as its head.
What is a REPUBLIC?
A supreme leader, usually a president, is elected by people
What is a MONARCHY?
A monarch is a country where the task of Head of State is inherited (King or Queen)
What is a PRESIDENT?
The Head of a Republican state
What is a DICTATORSHIP?
Is when one person or party controls the country. There are no fair elections & usually Human Rights abuse.
What is ANARCHY?
Where there is not a government
What is COMMUNISM?
Is when there is usually a dictatorship & in theory everyone is equal. The government controls all business & farms
What is FACISM?
Is when there is one powerful leader & only one party. It’s usually a racist state.
What is AUTOCRACY?
Is when one person rules

What was the STOLEN GENERATION?
Aboriginal children taken from their parents, in Oz.
Between 1910 & 1970, up to 100,000 children were taken. Many suffered physical & sexual abuse & living conditions were very poor. The main motive was to ‘assimilate’ aboriginal children into European society over one or two generations, by denying & destroying their aboriginality.
