Governors Flashcards
(14 cards)
What should you note a control cables?
-Come in different lengths
-Use proper cable
-How the old cable was routed
-Follow AMM
What are some control cable checks?
-Cable must hit the high and low blade pitch stops before the cable stops in the cabin
-Check for full travel before running the engine
-Run engine to check proper governor settings and operations
What is a propeller synchronizer?
Fine tunes the engines to turn the props at the same frequency
What is a snychrophaser?
Helps further attenuate noise and vibration associated with two propellers turning at different frequencies
What are the two functions of a synchrophaser?
-First the system fine tunes the engines to turn the props at the same speed
-Second it adjust the prop blade to shift the slave propeller as needed to reduce vibration
How does a de-ice/anti-anti-ice work?
-Uses isopropyl alcohol or some other fluid to prevent ice
-Fluid from a tank is pumped out a slinger ring on the prop
-Centrifugal force moves the fluid along the length of the prop
How does an electro-thermal blankets remove ice?
Deicer timer sends current to each prop blade in turn
This causes the prop deice ammeter to pulse
What is a prop accumulator?
Holds oil to be used for feathering or un-feathering
What type of prop is a feathering accumulator used?
Constant speed prop
Used to push blades into feather position or to assist counterweights
Where is a unfeathering accumulator used?
Counterweight props
How does a propeller governor work?
-Pumps oil into or out of the propeller hub to change blade pitch
-Changes pitch to maintain a set engine speed
What moves the valve in a governor?
flyweights and speeder rings
How do constant speed props hold blades in low pitch?
High oil pressure
What are the two propeller controls?
Throttle-controls MAP (engine power)
Propeller lever-controls engine speed (RPM)
