Intro

A

The bridge from college to career has collapsed for too many Black and Latino students.

Only 46% ever graduate, and of those who do, nearly 60% are underemployed or unemployed a year later. This isn’t a talent issue. It’s a system failure.

At Greenwood Project, we’re rebuilding that bridge, by launching our Scholars into high-trajectory careers in financial services.

Our model creates millions in lifetime earnings for our Scholars and opens doors that were once locked.

Q

Why does this matter?

A

Because wealth is the building block of prosperity, Black and Latino families hold just a fraction of the wealth of white families.

In fact, if we don’t change course, it’s estimated that the average wealth of black and Latinos could reach zero within a generation.
That’s not just a loss for those families. That’s a loss for all of us.

When over 30% of the country is shut out of wealth-building, we all lose talent, innovation, and potential. But when we invest in access and opportunity, we don’t just close gaps—we unlock futures, uplift families, and strengthen the foundation of our entire economy.

Q

Where does Greenwood Project Come In?

A

That’s where Greenwood Project comes in.

We prepare scholars for roles that require a four-year degree, pay at least $60K from day one, and have long-term upside.

Why does Greenwood Project Succeed?

A

We succeed because our model is different.

First: we start with personal and professional clarity.

Q

What is Personal and Professional Clarity?

A

We don’t just train students for roles—we help them understand who they are, what they’re good at, and where they’ll thrive - so they choose the right path, not just any path.

Q

What is deep, structured coaching?

A

We don’t rely on volunteers. Our coaches are seasoned professionals who’ve held the very roles our students aspire to. That matters—because 55% of our scholars are first-generation college students, and 75% come from low- to moderate-income families. They don’t have someone at home who can explain how corporate America works—let alone Wall Street.

Q

What is the unwritten rules?

A

Soft skills—emotional intelligence, communication, knowing how to navigate unspoken norms—account for up to 60% of career advancement. We teach them explicitly, because our scholars can’t afford to learn them by trial and error.

Mariel Intro

A

But first, some context:
Roles at top firms like Morgan Stanley are among the most competitive in the world. They receive over 300,000 applications annually and accept fewer than 1%. That’s harder to get into than Harvard. And yet, that’s exactly where Mariel landed.
I met her in 2019 during a Lunch & Learn at my firm. She was sharp, curious, and full of potential—but finance wasn’t even on her radar. We stayed in touch. I mentored her. And when the time was right, I introduced her to a Managing Director at Morgan Stanley who saw what I saw.

Mariel Taking Off

A

From there, Mariel took off.
* A quantitative internship in Boston.
* A VC fellowship on the West Coast.
* A Morgan Stanley internship her junior summer.
Today, she’s in algorithmic sales and trading at Morgan Stanley.
Mariel isn’t the exception. She’s the proof. Proof of what happens when talent meets access.
