What happened in the Charlottetown conference?
Like in our conference, the delegates discussed joining into one country. After the meeting was over, the delegates felt that they had more to talk about, so they decided to have a second conference in Quebec in one month’s time.

During the Quebec conference, the seventy-two resolutions were discussed. What were some of the major ideas?
- A strong CENTRAL government would LEGISLATE for peace, order and good government
- The United Province of Canada would be split into Ontario and Quebec
- A federal Parliament would be composed of two law-making houses. One would be the House of Commons, and its members would be elected according to Rep. by Pop.

Prince Edward Island - People were concerned that the representatives would have little power.
Newfoundland - They weren’t interested. (They felt that they didn’t have much in common with Canada.)

16 delegates from The United Province of Canada, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.

In London!!!
The delegates sailed to London in 1866. The bill was proposed to the British Parliament on Feb. 12, 1867, and they passed the bill on May 22, 1867

What is the BNA act, and what does it state?
The British North America act created the Dominion of Canada in 1867. It stated the powers of the provincial and federal governments, outlined the way in which the government would be structured, and guaranteed protection for minority groups. The British North America act was the first Canadian Constitution.
