Q

What is the Gradient of a Line?

A
  • A measurement of the line’s steepness
  • As we ascend a flight of stairs we undergo a horizontal shift
  • A slanted line can also be seen to have a vertical rise & a horizontal shift
  • A line with a greater vertical rise compared to its horizontal shift is steeper than a line with a greater horizontal shift
  • A line with zero vertical rise is horizontal
-A line with zero horizontal shift is vertical
  • The Gradient or steepness of the line is the ratio of its vertical rise to its horizontal shift
