18
Q

Escherichia coli virulence factors

A

variable virulence. Expression of toxin, adhesins and invasin factors, biofilm, flagella.
EPEC - (enteropathic) has short adhesins and shortens villi.
STEC - shiga toxin binds to GB3 halting protein synthesis and causing apoptosis (CNS, kidney effects)

Q

Escherichia coli commensal

20
Q

Escherichia coli condition

A

Neonate meningitis. Urinary tract infections. Diarrhoea/colitis (2* haemorrhagic colitis, thrombocytopenia purpura, haemolytic uremia syndrome)

21
Q

Escherichia coli treatment

A

treatment don’t treat because will influence more shiga toxin release

22
Q

Haemophilus influenzae virulence factors

A

capsular (not all), catalase, produces beta lactamases

23
Q

Haemophilus influenzae commensal

A

upper resp tract
