Bacteremia – infection of the blood
Carbuncle
Carbuncle – bacterial skin infection consisting of two or more contiguous furuncles
Cellulitis
Cellulitis – bacterial infection of skin and subcutaneous fat
Endocarditis
Endocarditis – infection of the endocardium of the heart
Folliculitis
Folliculitis – inflammation of the hair follicle
Furuncle
Furuncle – “boil” – skin infection around a hair follicle consisting of a round, tender dome with purulent fluid
Impetigo
Impetigo – superficial skin infection consisting of pustules or vesicles, drainage of yellow/clear fluid, and the presence of “honey-coloured” crusting

Necrotizing fasciitis – infection of the fascia of muscles or other organs resulting in rapid destruction of tissues. Pathognomonic feature – pain out of proportion to the objective findings of infection.

Septic arthritis – bacterial infection of a joint
staphylococcal scalded skin syndrome
Staphylococcal scalded skin syndrome – infection caused by toxin producing S. aureus resulting in blistering and exfoliation of the skin
tonsillopharyngitis
Tonsillopharyngitis – inflammation of the tonsils and pharynx
toxic shock syndrome
Toxic shock syndrome – infection caused by certain toxin producing bacteria resulting in fever, hypotension and multi-organ dysfunction
