Past - When do we double the consonant?

A

1-syllable verbs:
- when they end in consonant + vowel + consonant
- stop ⇒ stopped
- plan ⇒ planned
- shop ⇒ shopped

2-syllable verbs:
- when the stress is in the last syllable
- preFER ⇒ preferred
- reGRET ⇒ regretted

  • VIsit ⇒ visited
  • ANswer ⇒ answered.
