Follows a sentence to express “uncertainty”
かもしれない
Usage:
Nouns and な-adjectives: don’t use だ. But can use the other forms (past, negative)
Verbs: put into plain form
い-adjectives: Just add it on
Conjugation: Treat the ない part like an い-adjective
Informal: かも
“If” Format and Usage
Dictionary/Informal Form + なら
[If Statement] なら [Action/Result/Then Statement]
Ex. 私はあなたならそんなことはしないです。 (If I were you, I wouldn’t do something like that)
Cannot Use Rules:
- Cannot use if the condition will absolutely happen (ex. Let’s go see the cherry blossoms if spring comes. Bad to use because spring will always come)
- If you know whether the action/condition will happen or not (ex. If I go outside, Koi will come. Bad because you know if you’ll go outside or not)
- Not to be used with cause and effect (ex. If you run, the teacher will be mad)

(My older brother sometimes does my homework)

(It will surely rain tomorrow)

(It is probably this house)

ex. かのじょはとてもやさしいです
(she is very nice)

ex. いつも食べる (I always eat)

よく + positive
ex. よくとうきょうに行った (I went to Tokyo often)

Likeness, Seemingness
Ex. It seems LIKE Lily and her group are still sleeping
