“If” Format and Usage

A

Dictionary/Informal Form + なら

[If Statement] なら [Action/Result/Then Statement]
Ex. 私はあなたならそんなことはしないです。 (If I were you, I wouldn’t do something like that)

Cannot Use Rules:

  1. Cannot use if the condition will absolutely happen (ex. Let’s go see the cherry blossoms if spring comes. Bad to use because spring will always come)
  2. If you know whether the action/condition will happen or not (ex. If I go outside, Koi will come. Bad because you know if you’ll go outside or not)
  3. Not to be used with cause and effect (ex. If you run, the teacher will be mad)
