Common noun
A noun denoting a class of objects or a concept as opposed to an individual. Examples: coffee shop, country, fire fighter
Proper noun
A name used for an individual person, place or organization, spelled with initial capital letters. Examples are Thomas, Canada, New England Patriots
Abstract noun
A noun denoting an idea, quality, or state rather than a concrete object. Examples: Belief, comfort, anger
Concrete noun
Concrete nouns are things you can experience through your five senses. Examples: Desk, Paper, Phone
First person pronoun
First person pronouns usually refer to the speaker, in case of the singular, or to the speaker and others, in case of the plural. Examples: I, me, we
Second person pronoun
A grammatical category of pronouns and verbs used when referring to or describing the individual or individuals being addressed. Examples: You, yourself, yours
Third person pronoun
A linguistic form or the group of linguistic forms referring to this grammatical person, as certain verb forms, pronouns. Examples: They them theirs.
Action verb
Action verbs are verbs that specifically describe what the subject of the sentence is doing. Examples: Talking, reaching, walking
State of being verb
State of being verbs link the subject to a noun or adjectives in the predicate Examples: Is, am, was
Adverb
An adverb is a word that describes a verb. Examples: Walking FAST, QUICKLY jumping, HAPPILY skipping
Adjective
A word that describes a noun. Examples: BROWN hair, COOL kid, CRAZY, girl
Article
A word or phrase that modifies or qualifies an adjective, verb, or other adverb or word group, expressing a relationship of place, time, circumstance, manner, cause, degree, etc. Examples: gently, quite, then.
Conjunction
A word used to connect clauses or sentences or to coordinate words in the same clause. Examples: and, but, if
Preposition
A word governing, and usually proceeding, a noun or pronoun and expressing a relation to another word or element in the clause
Interjection
Something that cuts in between a sentence. Examples: Boom! Crash! Owww!
