Present Tense

Action that is happening now, or happens as a general rule.

Note, context and intonation are determinants. e.g. 1. She works well 2. She really works well. 3. She is working well

examples:

  • Charles sits on the chair.
  • We speak with Nichole.
  • He stands up, walk, and then runs.
  • Mr. Jean Jacque looks at his child.
  • She opens her mouth.
  • Marie lies down on her bed.
  • Her father goes to the hospital today.

Present Progressive

The tense marker for a present action that is continuing, but also used to indicate a near-future event or situation.

e.g. you are coming, you are coming tomorrow

examples:

  • I am eating bread.
  • You are walking straight.
  • He’s talking with his friend.
  • We are working hard.
  • They are helping their families.
  • I will come (or am coming) tomorrow.
