When do we use bar charts?

• When IV is independent categories e.g. fav colour
• X axis = categories
• Y axis = frequency, scores, etc
• BARS SHOULD NOT TOUCH

• X axis is divided into BINS - fixed numerical intervals data is split into
• Y axis = frequency
• BARS SHOULD TOUCH

• Used when only one variable is being measured e.g. over time
• X axis = numerical groupings
• Y axis = frequency/scores
• SHOULD BE ONE CONTINUOUS LINE

When do we use scatter graphs?

• Used for correlational data - from 2 co-variables on each axis for each PP
• USE LINE OF BEST FIT
• X axis = variable 1
• Y axis = variable 2
  They show:
• Direction of correlation - positive or negative
• Strength of correlation - no/weak/moderate/strong
