Does gravitational potential increase or decrease with distance?

A

Increases, as it gets closer to 0 at infinity from a negative value.

Q

Why do we launch stale items from near the equator and not the poles?

A

At the equator there will be a much greater rotational speed before you even launch. V = ωr and when r increases the value for v increases. So at the poles v = 0 as r = 0.
