Setting of Great Expectations?
It takes place in between at the edge of the North Kent
marshes, a market town in which Satis House is located, and the greater city of London.
Who is Pip?
An orphan raised by his sister and her husband. Showing kindness, he becomes a great estate guy. He is Magwitches benefactor.
Who is Joe Gargery?
He is a blacksmith and the husband of Mrs Gargery (Pip’s sister). He was a very good friend and supportive to Pip. Pip is ashamed and abandons him but later on realizes what Joe meant to him.
Who is Miss Havisham?
A bitter old lady, that stays at home and wears her old faded wedding dress. The cake rotted, still on her dining table. Adopted a girl name Estella, who she raised as a man hater.
Who is Estella?
Mrs Havisham’s pretty adopted daughter. Has a very cold heart, as she wreak’s revenge on men for Mrs Havisham. Honest with Pip but can’t return the love Pip has given her.
Who is Magwitch also known as Provis and Cambell?
Escaped convict who initially bullies Pip for a food and file. Rewards Pip with a lot of money, for what he did. When Pip is an adult, revealing that he was the donor. Asks help to escape his death sentences.
Who is Mrs Gargery?
Pip’s sister. Unable to communicate, as she got attacked with a leg iron (brain injury). Learns to be patient.
Who is Biddy Wopsle?
Pip’s teacher, who has a crush on Pip. Runs the house after what happen to Mrs. Joe and marries Mr. Joe Gargery.
Who is Mr Wopsle?
A parish lay clerk. Wanted to be a clergyman. Leaves the church to become a actor in London. His “great expectations” are in comic parallel to Pip’s.
Who is Mr Pumblechook?
Joe’s uncle. He joins Mrs. Joe in bullying and resenting Pip, then takes some credit for Pip’s good fortune.
Who is Mr and Mrs Hubble?
Friends of Mrs. Joe.
Who is Orlick?
Joe’s employee. Attacks Mrs. Joe and tries to end Pip’s life. Later he robs Mr. Pumblechook and ends up in jail.
Who is Mr Jaggers?
Criminal Lawyer in London, known for his ability to defend even the dregs of society. He is the administrator of Pip’s inheritance.
Who is Wemmick?
Jaggers confidential clerk. Pip often remarks that Wemmick has two personalities. He becomes an advisor and friend to Pip.
Who is Herbert Pocket?
Pip’s best friend
