What do fungus need to grow?
Food, moisture, suitable PH, warm temperature and oxygen
Where are microbes grown?
Sterile agar plates
How do we sterilise an agar plate?
Keeping dish closed, inoculating loop flamed before use, bench cleaned with alcohol before experiment, dish taped before incubated
Why do we sterilise an agar plate?
Only thing growing is the thing you’re interested in
Why must the plate be labelled?
You know what plate is yours and when the experiment took place
Why should it never be open again?
So bacteria and microbes can’t get in
How does yeast make bread?
Produces carbon dioxide to make it rise
Why is yeast used for brewing?
Produces alcohol from sugar
What is bacteria used to make?
Cheese and yogurt
How do microbes grow?
Divide into 2 new cells rapidly
Why do microbes start to level off?
Not enough food, build up of poisonous waste gas
