What is sutural theory
What is Nasal septum theory
What is functional matrix theory
Bjork 7 signs of growth rotation + evidence of accuracy
1) Inclination of condylar head
2) Shape of lower border of Mn
3) Inclination of symphysis
4) Curve of Mn canal
5) Interincisal angle
6) Intermolar angle

Baumrind et al., 1984: No better than chance
TMJ remodelling in Cl.II GM
Fx app. -> physical stretching and re-orientation of mesenchymal layer in articular layer/ Tension of posterior disc fibers -> neurovascularization in the area-> increase mesenchymal cells diff and mat. -> increase bone formation, distal part of condyle
Repetitive motion + pressure against temporal bone and cortical bone application
Glenoid fossa: pri attachment of post. fibrous tissues of articular disc stretched -> tensile effect-> new blood vessels, perivascular CT (source for new mesenchymal cells) -> increase bone formation posterior to glenoid fossa
Result: Morph. change in glenoid fossa, thickening on post part of condyle
No adaption and remodelling to forward position -> relapse
Site of postnatal cranial growth + evidence
Spheno-occipital synchondrosis
- pressure adapted
- endochrondral growth
- last ossification
- MAIN contributor to AP dimension of skill base
Variation in timing
13-15 F
15-17 M
Melsen 1975
Sig of spheno-occipital synchodrosis
- direct connection of upper-midface
- carries midface forward, downward, laterally
Deficiency:
- Crouzons (premature fusion): short ant cranial base
Regulars:
BMP4
Growth hormones
