Endometriosis, ovarian torsion, PID, ovarian cancer, ovarian cyst rupture (not specific for ovarian cancer)

Follows the hormonal pattern of the menstrual cycle - often no intermenstrual bleeding

1) Multiparity
2) Oral contraceptive pill
