HAE - Arm Flashcards
(39 cards)
radial groove
On posterior side of midshaft of humerus

capitulum
rounded protuberance on distal aspect of the humerus that articulates with the head of the radius at elbow joint

trochlea
pulley-shaped structure on distal aspect of humerus that articulates with trochlear notch of ulna at the elbow joint

coronoid fossa
depression on anterior distal surface of the humerus that receives coronoid process of the ulna during flexion of the elbow joint

olecranon fossa
depression on posterior distal surface of humerus that receives olecranon of ulna during extension of elbow joint

medial and lateral epicondyles
prominences of distal humerus on medial and lateral side of elbow

ulnar groove
groove in medial aspect of distal humerus for ulnar nerve
supracondylar ridges
extend superiorward from epicondyls; attachments for muscles of the forearm

humeroradial joint
joint between capitulum and head of the radius; shallow

trochlear notch
concave region on proximal end of ulna that articulates with trochlea of humerus
humeroulnar joint
joint between trochlea of humerus and trochlear notch of the ulna; stable

proximal radioulnar joint
joint between proximal portions of radius and ulna

anular ligament
holds together the proximal radioulnar joint ; permits pronation and supination

pronation
in anatomical position, turning the palm towards the posterior
supination
Opposite of pronation (turn palm to face anterior)
collateral ligaments
(radial and ulnar) collateral ligaments prevent movements other than flexion and extention

intermuscular septum
separates arm into anterior (flexor) and posteror (extensor) compartments; medial and lateral; thick layer of fascia

flexor compartment
anterior side of arm; contains 3 muscles that flex the arm
extensor compartment
posterior side of arm; contains triceps
coracobrachialis
O: coracocoid process, I: midshaft of humerus on medial side, N: musculocutaneous, A: flexs and adducts at glenohumeral joint
biceps brachii
O: short head = coracoid process, long head = supraglenoid tubercle of scapula, I: radial tuberosity, N: musculocutaneous, A: weak flexor of shoulder, powerful flexor at supinator at elbow
brachialis
O: distal half of anterior humerus, I: ulnar tuberosity, N: musculocutanous, A: flexor at elbow
radial tuberosity
bony prominance on proximal portion of radius, insertion for biceps brachii
triceps brachii
O: long head = infraglenoid tubercle, lateral head: posterior side of humerus superior to radial groove, medial head: posterior side of humerus inferior to radial groove, I: Olecranon of ulna, N: Radial nerve, A: extends the forearm (long head can also extent arm)
