Hair Flashcards
(31 cards)
Define haircutting
Using tools to create different a different shapes/forms with the hair or artistic carving or removing of hair lengths
Define form
Form is a 3D representation of shape. Has length, width, and depth
Define shape
Has only length and width. Most common shapes are: square, triangle, circle, oval, and rectangle
What is a point and what is a line?
A point is a dot or a mark and a line is an extended point that can be straight or curved
Describe horizontal lines
Parallel to the horizon, stable and restful, create a feeling of max weight and stability
Describe vertical lines
Up and down, create a feeling of weightlessness and equilibrium.
Describe diagonal lines
Slants left or right, diagonal forward lines move towards the face and vice versa, create a feeling of movement and excitement
Describe concave and convex
Candace lines curve inward like a cave
Convex lines curve outward like a v
They are a combination or diagonal right and left lines to create a feeling of movement
What are the most common angles?
45 and 90
What is structure?
The arrangement of lengths across the curves of the head
Describe natural fall
How the hair lengths lay naturally over the head.
Parts of the body used to describe it are chin, neck, and shoulders
Describe normal projection
Projected at a 90 degree angle from the curves of the head
Allow you to analyze the structure/length arrangement of the hair
Describe natural (distribution?)
How the hair falls naturally against the head due to gravity
Uses horizontal, diagonal, concave, and convex lines
Used to cut solid forms
Describe perpendicular (distribution?)
The hair is combed at a 90 degree angle from its parting
Used from any line
Used to cut graduated and layered forms
Used in Caesar cut
Describe shifted (distribution?)
Combed out of natural to any angle except perpendicular
Used when cutting most forms except solid
Used for exaggerated length increases and blending between different forms
Describe directional (distribution?)
Distributed vertically or horizontally out from the head
Results in length increases due to the curve of the head
Describe projection (elevation)
The angle at which the hair is held in relation to the curve of the head prior to and while cutting
What is low, medium, and high elevation?
Low: 0-30 degrees
Medium: 30-60 degrees
High: 60-90 degrees
Describe finger and shear position
Refers to the position of the fingers and shears relative to the parting
Parallel>fingers are positioned at an equal distance away from the parting. Will result in the purest reflection of the chosen line
Nonparallel>fingers are positioned unequally from the the parting. This is used to blend between contrasting lengths and to create exaggerated length increases
Define design line
Artistic guideline used while cutting. Any line can be used to create a design line
Describe stationary design lines
A stable guide that all lengths follow. Used to cut solid and increase-layered and to achieve a weight area in graduated forms
Describe mobile design lines
A moveable guide that consists of a small amount of previously cut hair. Used to cut graduated and layered forms and square combination
Define crosschecking
Used to check a haircut for balance and accuracy
Performed by using the opposite parting pattern that was used to cut the hair
Crosscheck periodically through the haircut to avoid mistakes
Describe parting
Lines that subdivide sections of hair in order separate, distribute, and control the hair while cutting
Usually parallel to the design line
