A

sx at radial aspect of wrist near the base of thumb

abduction aggaint resistance is painful

  • pain - can radiate to forearm
  • aching
  • burning
  • weakness

- wrist adducted/ulnar deviated

A

analgesia
steroid injection
immobilisation with a thumb splint (spica) may be effective

surgical treatment is sometimes required

when should surgical management be considered in Dupuytren’s contracture

A

when the metacarpophalangeal joints cannot be straightened and thus the hand cannot be placed flat on the table

  • -> fasciectomy
  • cx = neurovascular damage
