Hardware Flashcards
(10 cards)
CPU (Central Processing Unit)
The main component of a computer that performs most of the processing tasks.
ALU (Arithmetic Logic Unit)
Performs arithmetic and logic operations within the CPU.
Register
A small, fast storage location within the CPU used to hold temporary data.
RAM (Random Access Memory)
Volatile memory used for storing data and programs that are currently in use.
ROM (Read-Only Memory)
Non-volatile memory containing data that cannot be modified during regular use.
Cache
Small memory close to the CPU that stores frequently accessed data for faster retrieval.
Input Devices
Hardware used to send data into a computer, such as a keyboard or mouse.
Output Devices
Hardware used to receive data from a computer, such as a monitor or printer.
Control Unit
Directs the operation of the processor by managing instruction execution.
Secondary Storage
Non-volatile storage like hard drives and USB drives used for long-term data storage.
