Q

what happened in 1209 in Cambridge ?

A

the making of the university.
Scholars fled from oxford to Cambridge. these people were academic meaning they used up the towns resources and dint provide any. This was one reason for tension between scholars and townsfolk.

Another reason for tension was because the scholars were not ruled over by the town government but by ultimately the king, meaning they didnt have to pay tax or follow town rules etc.
