Hazourdous Earth Flashcards
(20 cards)
How many cells are there and what are they?
3
Polar cell
Ferrel cell
Hadley cell
What is the area called in between two cells
ITCZ
Inter tropical central zone
Give two ways heat is given around the earth.
The three cells
Ocean currents
Why can the currents go above or under each other?
Because hot water rises and cold air descends.
Where is the the coldest?
Near the poles
Where is the the hottest?
In between the two tropics
What are the two tropics?
Tropic of Cancer
Tropic of capricorn
Why is it hotter at the equator?
Because the sun’s rays are more concentrated
Why is it cold near the poles?
Because the suns rays are less concentrated there
Explain eccentricity
It is when the earths orbit is circular to elliptical
Explain tilt
It is when the axis has a bigger tilt to a smaller tilt
Explain wobble
Axis wobbles in a circle
Explain how tree rings show weather over years
Every year bark replenishes and if it gets thicker there was fire and if it is small there was less water.
Explain how ice cores show weather over time.
The condition of the ice can tell what it was like
Explain how historical records can show weather over time
Daily diaries may mention weather and major pictures it would show weather in the sky
Explain the greenhouse effect
When suns rays goes into the atmosphere it will be absorbed by the earth and reflected back out and then it will be reflected by the green house gasses already in the air.
Explain the enhanced green house effect
When humans output green house gasses and that adds up to how thick the green house gasses layer is and even multiplies how much is reflected back into the earth
What is the main difference between the green house effect and the enhanced green house effect?
Humans
What are four human activities that enhance the green house effect?
Farming
Industry
Energy
Transport
Give four evidence that climate change is humans fault
Declining arctic ice
Global temperature rise
Sea level rise and warming oceans
Extreme weather events
