Action:
Elevation of the ear
Tightens the scalp

origin:
Zygomatic bone near the zygomaticotemporal suture
Insertion:
modiolus - just lateral to the angle of the mouth
Action:
Elevation of the angle of the mouth
Draws the angle of the mouth laterally

Zygomaticus Minor
Origin:
Zygomatic bone near the zygomaticomaxillary suture
Insertion:
Muscular substance of the upper lip
Action:
Elevates the upper lip
Everts the upper lip (curling the upper lip away from the face)

Buccinator
Origin:
External surface of the alveolar processes of the maxilla and mandible
Pterygomandibular raphe
Insertion:
Deep musculature of the lips
Modiolus - just lateral to the angle of the mouth
Action:
Compresses the cheeks against the teeth

Origin:
Facia and skin superficial to the masseter
Insertion:
Angle of the mouth (the modiolus)
Action:
Retracts angle of the mouth (draws laterally the angle of the mouth)

Orbicularis Oculi
Origin:
Medial side of the eye
Insertion:
Medial side of the eye (returns to the same attachment)
Action:
Orbital part:
Closes and squints the eye
Palpebral part:
Depresses the upper eyelid and elevates the lower eyelid
Lacrimal part:
Retraction of the lower eye lid
Assists in tear transport and drainage
nerve:

Origin:
surrounds the mouth; L and R upper and lower parts
Insertion:
Each part anchors to the modiolus
Interlace to opposite side of the upper lip and lower lip
Action:
Closes the mouth
Protracts the lips

Angle and inferior border of the ramus of the internal surface of the mandible
Action:

contralateral deviation of the mandible @ TMJ
