Head Flashcards
(26 cards)
Indications for Skull Rads
known head trauma, instability of jaw, can’t open mouth, bloody nose
epistaxis
blood coming from nose
Downsides to Skull Rads
often require general anesthesia d/t positioning, also superimposition
4 Most Common Views for Skull Rads

- VD
- Right over left Lateral Oblique
- Left over right Lateral Oblique
mandible
maxilla
tympanic bullae
calvarium

What is number 4?
(other numbers are bonus)
- Cuniform process of arytenoid cartilage
- Thyroid Cartilage
- Cricoid cartilage
- Laryngeal Sacccules
Why do we take oblique skull radiographs?
reduce superimposition to vissualize components of both mandibles, TMJs, and tympanic bullae
On a left lateral oblique (left over right), which maxilla and which mandible are isolated?
right mandible and left maxilla
On a left lateral oblique (left over right), which tympanic bulla is isolated?
right tympanic bulla
On a left lateral oblique (left over right), which frontal sinus is isolated?
left frontal sinus
On this right lateral oblique (right over left), what are the following structures? Be specific.
At what angle do we take oblique skull radiographs?
approximately 30 degrees
What structures can you not visulaize in a VD rad of the skull?
tympanic bullae and the hyoid apparatus
Blue? Yellow?
Blue = Maxilla
Yellow = Mandible
