Head and Neck csv Flashcards
HEAD AND NECK
HEAD AND NECK
Olfactory nerve (CN I)
SS-smell (central processes of bipolar olfactory neurons) located on nasal septum, lateral nasal wall
HEAD AND NECK
Optic nerve (CN II)
SS-vision (retinal ganglion cell processes). Carries central artery of the retina and is surrounded by all 3 meningeal layers.
HEAD AND NECK
Superior division of CN III
SE, SA for innervation of Levator palpebrae superioris and Superior rectus. SymPOST, VA from Internal Carotid plexus to Superior tarsal (muller’s) muscle (opens eyes wide during flight or fight sympathetic response.
HEAD AND NECK
Inferior division of CN III
SE, SA for Inferior rectus, Medial rectus, and Inferior olbique. VE-ParaPRE from E/W nucleus to ciliary ganglion
HEAD AND NECK
Ciliary Ganglion
ParaPRE (of E/W nucleus via CN III)–> ParaPOST, SymPOST (via ophthalmic artery plexus to intraocular blood vessels), VA, SA from Nasociliary nerve
HEAD AND NECK
Trochelar nerve (CN IV)
SE, SA to Superior oblique muscle
HEAD AND NECK
Ophthalmic nerve
SA to anterior scalp, cornea, upper eyelid, lacrimal gland, tip/bridge of nose, and mucosa of nasal cavity. Exits cranium through Superior orbital fissure
HEAD AND NECK
Maxillary nerve
SA to cheek, upper teeth, lower eyelid, Palate, upper lip, nostrils of nose, and mucosa of nasal caivty. Exits through Foramen Rotundum.
HEAD AND NECK
Mandibular nerve
BM to muscles of mastication (Temporalis, Masseter, Medial and Lateral pterygoid) and anterior digastric, tensor tympani, tensor veli palantini. SA to temporal region, Anterior 2/3 of tongue, mandible, mucosa of lower oral cavity, chin, and mucosa of lower teeth
HEAD AND NECK
Anterior ethmoidal nerve (V1)
SA to nasal septum, lateral nasal wall
HEAD AND NECK
Nasociliary nerve (V1)
SA from Long ciliary, Anterior ethmoidal, and Posterior ethmoidal nerves branches and terminates as Infratrochlear. SymPOST, VA fibers to the Long ciliary nerve.
HEAD AND NECK
Short ciliary nerves
ParaPOST to Ciliary muscle AND Sphincter/constrictor pupillae muscle (near object vision)
HEAD AND NECK
Long ciliary nerves (V1)
SA, SymPOST, VA for innervation of the Dilator pupillae muscle
HEAD AND NECK
Frontal nerve (V1)
SA divides into Supraorbital and Supratrochlear nerves
HEAD AND NECK
Supraorbital nerve (V1)
SA to upper eyelid and forehead to vertex of scalp
HEAD AND NECK
Supratrochlear nerve (V1)
SA to central forehead, upper eyelid, eyebrow
HEAD AND NECK
Infratrochlear nerve (V1)
SA, continuation of the Ophthalmic nerve
HEAD AND NECK
External nasal nerve (V1)
SA to central nose and nose tip
HEAD AND NECK
Lacrimal nerve (V1)
ParaPOST, SymPOST, VA, SA to lacrimal gland
HEAD AND NECK
Zygomatic nerve (V2)
SA to skin over zygoma and side of eye; divides into zygomaticofacial and zygomaticotemporal nerves
HEAD AND NECK
Zygomaticofacial nerve (V2)
SA to skin over zygoma
HEAD AND NECK
Zygomaticotemporal nerve (V2)
SA, to cheek and temples
HEAD AND NECK
Orbital nerves (V2)
SA periosteum of orbit and mucous membrane of ethmoid and sphenoid sinuses
HEAD AND NECK
Infraorbital nerve (V2)
SA, distributes as “middle and anterior superior alveolar branches of the infrorbital nerve” to maxillary teeth (EXCEPT molars) and gingiva and to mucosa of maxillary sinus. Branches to side of nose, lower eyelid, and cheek. Continuation of the Maxillary nerve
