A

pink area of lips external to wet line. The junction between vermillion zone and skin.

What is the labial mucosa? What is found there,and what does it excrete?

A

The inner lining of the lips. Contains minor salivary glands that may appear as small bumps, these excrete saliva.

What is the buccal mucosa and what is found there?

A

The inner lining of the cheeks. Extends posterior to the retro molar pad. Contains the Caliculus angularis(the pink papule at the commisures. Also has the opening to the stenson’s duct near maxillary molar on the parotid papilla. There are also opening of minor salivary glands.

A

What landmarks are found on the hard palate?

A
  • “Roof” of the oral cavity.
  • Incisive papilla: Raised, pink, ovoid structure behind and between maxillary incisors, overlying nasopalatine foramen.
  • Rugae: fibrous ridges in anterior third of palate.
  • No salivary glands in anterior palate.
  • Median palatal raphe: yellow-white fibrous band in midline.
