Canker sores
A small shallow sore inside the mouth or at the base of the gums.
Caries
Tooth decay.
Cerumen
Earwax.
Conjunctiva
A membrane that covers the front of the eyes and lines the inside of the eyelids.
Conjunctivitis
Inflammation or infection of the membrane that lines the inner eyelid and covers the white part of the eyeball.
Cornea
Transparent layer forming the front of the eye.
Dentition
Pertains to the development of teeth and their arrangement in the mouth.
Dysphagia
Difficulty swallowing.
EOM intact
Extraocular muscles intact.
HEENT
Head, eyes, ears, nose, throat.
Laryngitis
Inflammation of the voice box.
Larynx
An area in the throat that contains the vocal cords.
Lymphadenopathy
Lymph nodes abnormal in size.
Mandible
Jaw.
NCAT
Normocephalic and atraumatic. Refers to a head of normal shape and size for the person’s age and without trauma.
Nystagmus
Involuntary eye movement.
Pharyngitis
Inflammation of the pharynx.
Pharynx
An area inside the mouth where the passages of the nose connect the mouth to the throat.
PERRLA
Pupils equal, round, reactive to light, and accommodation.
Rhinitis
Irritation and inflammation of the mucous membrane inside the nose.
Sclera
The white of the eye.
Sinusitis
The inflammation of the cavities around the nasal passage.
Subconjunctival hemorrhage
Occurs when a tiny blood vessel breaks just underneath the clear surface of your eye.
TMJ
Temporomandibular joint. Jaw joint.
