What is the intial phase of healing
Hemostasis
bleeding can last up to 6-8 hours

Inflammation
Starts within 6-8 hours peaks at 1-3 days and is resolved after 2-3 weeks

phagocytosis occurs to fight infection
what is the 3rd stage of healing?
Proliferation
starts 24-48hours after injury lasts 2-3 weeks
Collagen is produced to form scar tissue and pull the wound closed
What is the 4th stage of healing?
Remodelling
starts at peak proliferation and lasts 2 months to years
scar tissue becomes more organised, higher quality and stronger
What are the goals and treatments at the acute phase?
1-3 days
reduce pain control inflammation
RICE
do not take anti inflammitories
What goals and treatments of the sub acute phase?
3days -3 weeks
goal: prevent muscle atrophy
treatment: pain free full range of motion
concentric strengthening
what ar the goals and treatment in the remodeling phase?
2weeks - 6months eccentric strengthening stretching sports specific activities increase proprioception
