A

provides the link between the DHSC and health care providers, national leadership for the nhs

-responsible for delivering the nhs’s long term plan

-oversees the budget, assesses local health needs, plans for improving services

-supports local integrated health services through seven integrated regional teams.

What is an integrated health care system?

A

A total of 42 integrated care systems were set up across in England after the passing of the health and social care act 2022.

ICS are partnerships of organisations- NHS bodies, local councils, voluntary groups and charities that work together to deliver joint up care services.

Part of an ICS is an integrated care board (ICB) – an NHS organisation
responsible for developing a plan for meeting the health needs of the population,
managing the NHS budget and arranging health services in their area

Poor ICS are put in a recovering programme.

What is a primary care service?

A

GPs, dentists, community nurses, opticians- first point of contact for health services.
-funded by NHS england and are self employed.

-paid for their performance under the
Quality and Outcomes Framework.

-they work together with other services – such as mental
health, social care, pharmacy and hospital resources –
with the aim of providing more integrated health and
social care for people closer to home.

What is secondary health care?

A

Secondary health care is planned or elective care, urgent and emergency care, mental health care.

-NHS Trusts/Foundation Trusts provide hospital, mental health and ambulance
services.

-Foundation Trusts have greater freedom over how they run services and spend money.

  • Poorly performing trusts can be put
    into special measures.

Name four regulators and patients group:

A

Healthwatch England – it gathers and represents the views of patients and the
public, advice NHS England, local authorities and others and co-ordinate a network
of over 150 local healthwatch groups.

➢ Directors of public health – responsible for determining the overall vision and objectives for public health in a local area, or a particular area of public health.

➢ Local authorities - have a statutory duty for public health and health improvement,
including identifying health issues in the community and informing and educating
people.
➢ Health and Wellbeing Boards – operate in 152 local authorities with adult social care and public health
responsibilities, acting as a forum for key leaders from the local health and care
system to work together to improve health and wellbeing in their communities.
