The state of physical and mental wellbeing. Diseases are often responsible for causing ill health
What are communicable disease
Diseases that can spread from person to person
What can communicable diseases be caused by
Bacteria, viruses, parasites and fungi
What are examples of communicable diseases
Measles and malaria
What are non-communicable diseases
Diseases that cannot spread between people or animals and people. Generally last a long time and get worse
What are examples of non-communicable diseases
Asthma, cancer or coronary heart disease
What factors can affect health
1.Whether you have a balanced diet or not
2.Stress
3.Life situation - access to medicines
What are risk factors
Things linked to an increase in the likelihood someone will develop a certain disease
What can risk factors be
- Aspects of a persons lifestyle
- Air pollution
- Substances in ur body ( asbestos fibres )
What are asbestos fibres
A material used in buildings that could build up in airways and cause diseases such as cancer
Why are non-communicable diseases more common in developed countries
People have a higher income so can buy higher fat foods
