Macronutrients-
Macronutrients(macro)- needs nutrients in large amounts
Carbohydrates function
Is to provide fuel for the body a lot of energy is required for metabolism and growth
Carbohydrates there are two types what are they and their definitions?-
Simple- High in sugar, extra energy due to high intake of sugar, if not used, extra energy is converted to fat tissue (adipose tissue)
Complex- Can be converted to adipose tissue if too much is consumed and not burnt off
Carbohydrate major food sources-
Veggies, rice, bread, pasta, cereals, fruits- Oranges, grapes and bananas
Metabolism-
Metabolism converts to the fuels in the food we eat to energy.
Fibre functions-
Is a type of carbohydrate that is required for optimal health and wellbeing of young people. Found in all foods of plant origin, fibre is not absorbed by the body, rather it travels through the digestive system acting as a cleaner.
Fibre main food sources-
Bran, wholemeal bread, grains, fruit and veg- raspberries, apples, bananas, oranges, potatoes, broccoli and corn
What does fibre help do?
Helps reduce cholesterol levels
Makes you fuller for longer
what does satiety mean?-
Is equal to full
Protein main function-
Is to build and maintain and repair body cells it also acts like a fuel for energy. The less glucose someone has from carbohydrates protein is the second option of a source of energy
Protein food sources-
Eggs, Milk, Dairy, Meats(Beef, chicken), Poultry, Only some vegetables are rich in protein
Fats main functions-
Is to provide furl for energy for the body, Fats are a richer source of energy than carbohydrates and protein.

Avocadoes, oils, fish
What are the four fats?-
Monounsaturated, Polyunsaturated, Saturated and trans
what are the two good fats and why?
Monounsaturated and polyunsaturated are good fats due to the fact that they carry out the nesacery functions of fats. It helps reduce levels of cholesterol, supports brain function, and prompts the health of the heart and blood vessels.
What are two bad fats and why?
Saturated and trans due to the increase of cholesterol levels in the blood and can therefore contribute to cardiovascular disease in the long term
Good fat food sources-
Olive oil, avo and fish
bad fats food sources-
full cream milk, cream and cheese
Water main function-
The body is made up of 50-75% of water, Many cells and tissues and blood allowing the effective function of the bodies systems, also helps you keep hydrated
Water food sources-
watermelon, apple, orange, tomato, pineapple, celery, lettuce, cucumber and carrot
Calcium main function?-
What does low self esteem link to which dimension?
Builds bones and other hard tissues, not enough calcium can reduce levels of confidence and low self esteem linked to mental health and wellbeing
Calcium food sources-
Dairy, green leafy veggies, fortified orange juice
What is sodium?-
Is a mineral for the body
Regulates fluids
High levels of sodium draws excess fluid out of cells, which increases blood volume and hypertension
Main food sources of sodium are?-
Table salt, olives, fish, processed foods
