Concentrates on changing society rather than the individuals e.g. Smoking ban

May be easier to give up smoking because it’s less sociable acceptable

Educational
Emphasises information given to promote better knowledge and understanding of health matters so they can adopt a healthier lifestyle
E.g talks on dangers of smoking, TV ad
S;- Can be delivered to a large group Individuals can make informed decisions W;- Assumes the target group can read and write Difficult to know if learning took place
Behaviour change
Encourages service users to change their behaviour
E.g encouraging children to eat healthy
S;- Appeals to the adult in people Encourages personal change W;- Behaviour is not easy to change People don't like being told what to do
Fear arousal
To show images of consequences of unhealthy lifestyle to frighten service users into choosing a healthier lifestyle e.g TV ad showing consequences of drink driving
S;- consequences are clear to see
Has a strong impact
W;- the idea of it wont happen to me
Some people my turn it off cause it’s upsetting
Medical
Focuses on the prevention of disease through intervention by medical experts
E.g. Immunisation schedules, flu jabs

Has a history of success- small pox
Cost effective- cheaper to prevent disease
People feel they can trust doctor
W;-
People may not attend appointments
Fear among side effects- MMR AUTISM
Taking responsibility for your own health
Accessing services , lifestyle choices , self advocacy

Attending regular checkups
Responding to invitations for screening
Making an appointment before condition deteriorates
