Health-related fitness Flashcards
how well your body systems work
health related fitness
It is the relationship between fat tissue and lean body tissue such as muscle, bone, blood, skin, and organs. It refers to the relative percentage of the lean body mass and body fat.
It is the percentage of body weight which is fat, muscle or bone.
body composition
ability of your heart, blood vessels and the lungs to deliver essential oxygen to the working muscles and to remove waste materials
the body’s ability to continuously take in and process the amount of oxygen that is needed for a demanding task for a long period
cardio(vascular)respiratory endurance
ability of the joints to move throughout the full range of motion
flexibility
ability of a muscle or muscle group to exert one maximal force against a resistance
strength of different parts of the body
muscular strength
ability of a muscle or muscle group to exert repeated muscular contractions against a resistance for an extended period of time
muscular endurance
people who have high percentage of fat are more likely to be
ill and have a higher death rate than lean people
how to measure BODY COMPOSITION
Using an instrument called calliper/s, a specialised scale or it can be calculated by using BMI
a joint in which a ball moves within a socket so as to allow rotary motion in every direction
ball-and-socket joint
in which rounded head of one bone fits into a cuplike cavity of the other and admits movement in any direction
articulation
bone joint in which the articulation surfaces are molded to each other in such a manner as to permit motion only in one plane
hinge joint
two types of muscle contraction
isotonic contract - muscle change length
isometric - muscles do not change length
is the component found in repeated muscle contraction
dynamic strength
apparent in those activities requiring movement speed and sudden changes in direction
explosive strength
requires little muscle shortening and is necessary in overcoming a heavy resistance
static strength
