Q

What is the biomedical world view?

A

Derived from a philosophy of mind body dualism with a reductive view of the body, universalising, values neutrality - all knowledge comes from differences places, different views e.g. secular. Interested in numerical data, physical observations, visual representation of the body, dysfunction and structural deviance (disease often considered without social context)

Q

What are limitations of biomedical epistemology?

A

Medically unexplained symptoms - when everyone including yourself sees something wrong with you however medically there is no explainable diagnosis or cause, people are treated but they don’t know why. Can have a hard time understanding whats wrong when you have a long term illness that can’t be explained

Entangling of notions of health

A

Complicated or compromising relationship or situation, a situation or relationship that you are involved in and that is difficult to escape from.
