heat pt2 Flashcards
(7 cards)
What is conduction
Heat travelled through a solid using contact from molecules.
What is convection
Convection is the process of transferring heat through air or liquid currents. Convection causes liquid or gas to heat up, expand, and decrease in density.
what is radiation
Energy is transferred through waves, without needing a medium (solid, liquid, or gas).
how do thermometers work?
the heat causes the molecules to move faster meaning they need more room so they rise
What is temperature
Temperature is a measure of the average speed/energy at which individual molecules are moving
What is heat
the transfer of thermal energy between substances
what is the diff from day and night wind currents
At night, there is no surface heating and therefore less turbulence and the surface wind tends to resume its normal direction and speed
