January 1974, but this triumph was barely noticeable in the gathering economic crisis. The miners were asking for a pay increase which the government said could not be afforded, and in January 1974 the ensuing dispute led to a three day week, to conserve coal stocks at power stations.

how did heath react to the miners’ strike
A
But Heath was losing support and morale with the public and his own cabinet members which led him to appease the miners. This was more of a shock as they were given a 30% pay rise rather than the 10% wanted by the miners.
