What is cerumen?

What is conjunctivitis?
inflammation of the conjunctiva
What is the conjunctiva? Parts?
the clear thin membrane that covers the front surface of the eye, consisting of 2 segments; the bulbar conjunctive covers the anterior part of the sclera; the palpebral conjunctiva covers the inner surface of both the upper and lower eyelids; they’re continuous- like a little membrane folded on itself (look at a picture if confused)
What does palpebral mean?
eyelid
What is diplopia?
diplo- double; -opia: vision; double vision
What is dentition?
-ion: action of or condition; denti- teeth; the arrangement of teeth
What is dental caries?
cari/o: rotten; tooth decay
What is epistaxis?
epi: upon or above; -staxis: hemorrhage; nose bleed
what is extra ocular movements (EOM)?
eye movements controlled by six muscles
What is the fontanel?
the soft spot on an infant’s skill
What is hemotympanum?
blood in the tympanic cavity of the ear, usually a sign of a skull fracture as a result of trauma
What is icterus?
jaundice seen in the sclera
What is Injected conjunctiva?
redness of the sclera, a sign of conjunctivitis
What is malocclusion?
misalignment of the teeth
What are nares?
nostrils
What is a nasal septal hematoma?
accumulation of blood within the nasal septum, usually as a result of trauma
What is nystagmus?
rapid involuntary movements of the eye
What is occiput?
occipital area of the skull (lower back region of the head)- vision
What is pharyngeal erythema?
redness of the throat; -ema: conditon; erythr/o: red;
What is pharyngitis?
inflammation of the pharynx
What is pale conjunctiva?
paleness in the conjunctiva; often seen in anemic patients
What is papilledema? what does it indicate?
swelling of the optic disc, sign of increased cranial pressure
What is photophobia?
sensitivity and aversion ot light d.t. discomfort or pain to the eyes w light exposure
What is rhinorrhea?
rrhea: outpouring; rhino- nose; runny nose
