Hematology Flashcards
(19 cards)
What is plasma?
Cell free part of blood that has been treated with ANTI-COAGULANTS
What is serum?
liquid part of blood AFTER coagulation, therefore devoid of clotting factors e.g fibrinogen
How platelets helps in blood clotting
- gathering at the site of an injury, sticking to the lining of the injured blood vessel and blood coagulation occur
- formation of a fibrin clot, which covers the wound and prevents blood from leaking out
Plasma is mixture of
Water,sugar,fat,protein and salt
What is common type leucocyte
Neutrophils. it is the first cell to arrive on the scene when we experienced a bacterial infection
Function of neutrophils
Chemotaxis,phagocytosis,killing of phagocytosed bacteria
Number of eosinophils can rise during
Response to allergic reactions, fungal and parasitic infections, medications and some type of cancer
Function of basiphils
- Produce heparin(prevents the blood from clotting quickly)
- Eat parasites through phagocytosis
- Important role in certain inflammatory reactions, particularly those involving allergies
Bone marrow produces ……(specifically)
ALL rbc,60-70 percent wbc and ALL platelets
Lymphatic tissue produces
Lymphocytes (20-30 percent wbc)
Reticuloendothelial tissues such as spleen, liver, lymph nodes produces
Monocytes (4-8 percent wbc)
In adults major sites in of hematopoiesis is …
Sternum and iliac crest
Other sites-skull,vertebrae and ribs
8 stages of rbc differentiations
- hemocytoblast, which is pluripotent hematopoietic stem cell
- common myeloid progenitor,a multipotent stem cells
- unipotent stem cell
- pronormoblast
- basophilic normoblast (erythroblast)
- polychromatophilic normoblast
- orthochromatic normoblast
- reticulocyte -the first one to enter blood stream
Life span of rbc
120days
Life span wbc approximately
Between 10-20 days
Life span of thrombocytes?
3-7 days
Megakaryocytes gives rise to
Thrombocytes(platelets)
What is the earliest cell line
Hemocytoblast
Diapedesis ?
White blood cell can be found in urine
