A

cell that can renew itself and differentiate into a variety of cells

  • harvested from bone marrow
  • peripheral blood
  • umbilical cord blood

A

series of procedures:

  • treated with chemo/radiation
  • Myeloablative (destroy all)
  • nonmyeloablative (destroy some)
  • infusion of hematopoietic progenitor stem cells
Indications for:
AML
ALL
CLL
CML
MM
lymphomas
Sickle cell
aplastic anemia
B-thalassemia

Types of HCT donors

A
autologous - self
syngeneic - identical twin
- low GVHD risk
allogenic - someone other than person with disorder
- high GVHD risk and infection risk

A

hospital 2-6 weeks

abx/antifungal/antivirals prophylaxis
