Hepatitis A
Acute, incubation 2-4 weeks Faecal-oral Flu-like, jaundice, hepatosplenomegaly No inc risk of hepatocellular cancer Can give vaccine
Hepatitis B
Bad-ass and Blood Exposure to blood/body fluids Sex Mother to child Incubation 6-20 weeks Fever, jaundice, elevated liver things Lots of complications, RISK OF HEPATOCELLULAR CARCINOMA Can vaccinate Treat with adenovir, peg interferon (antivirals)
Hepatitis C
Chronic and Copycat of B
Most common - IV drug users and blood transfusions
Incubation 6-9 weeks
Risk of cancer etc, chronic liver disease symptoms
Can give interferon alpha
Hepatitis D
Dependent on B
Exchange of bodily fluids
Co-infection with B
Diagnose with viral PCR
Hepatitis E
Exotic, travel, animals Faecal-oral route 3-8 weeks incubation Central and south-east asia, north and west africa, mexico Mortality if pregnant No vaccine yet
HBsAg
First marker to appear, surface antigen Acute infection (1-6 months) but can indicate chronic and that they are a carrier if present for longer
Anti-HB
Immunity from exposure or vaccine
Anti-HBc
Previous or current infection
HBcIgM
Acute infection, stays for 6 months
HbeAg
Antigen is replication, patient is infective
HBcIgG
Persists for a while as antibody has undergone class switch
Previously immunised
All anti-HB positive, others negative
Previous Hep B not a carrier
anti-HBc positive, HBsAg negative
Previous Hep B now a carrier
anti-HBc positive, HBsAg positive (chronic, still infective)
Markers raised in Autoimmune Hepatitis
ASMA positive
ALT raised
IgG raised
Drugs that can cause drug-induced hepatitis
Methotrexate
Azathioprine
NSAIDS
Paracetamol
LFT’s raised in Hepatitis
ALT, AST
Treatment for autoimmune hepatitis
Prednisolone if acute
Azathioprine if chronic
