What is acute hepatitis?

A
  1. Inflammation of liver: duration <6 months
  2. Caused by alcohol/hepatotropic viral
  3. Symptoms very variable: mild to fatal

What is viral hepatitis caused by?

A

Most common causes are hep A, B, C, D, E & G and EBV, symptoms very variable

What are the other causes of acute hepatitis?

A
  1. Alpha-1-antitrypsin deficiency
  2. Drug: Paracetamol, isoniazid, allopurinol, halothane, sulphonamides and methyl dopa
  3. Wilson’s disease
  4. Reyes syndrome in children
  5. Lymphoma
  6. Budd- Chiari syndrome
