What are the types of hernia

A

EXTERNAL HERNIAS

  • Inguinal - most common - may be divided into direct and indirect
  • Femoral - through the femoral canal
  • Epigastric - mostly in children in first 3 years of life
  • Paraumbilical
  • Umbilical
  • Spigelian - ventro lateral wall hernia through the spigellian fascia in the medial aspect of the rectus abdominis
  • Obturator - through the obturator canal or foramen- presents with pain radiating to the knee
  • Lumbar (superior and inferior)
  • Gluteal
  • Sciatic
  • RIchters Hernia
  • Pantaloon hernia - direct and indirect hernia exist together
  • Littles hernia - herniation of a meckles diverticulum through the inguinal canal

INTERNAL HERNIAS
Foramen of winslow - Intestinal obstruction with no external hernia and no previous surgery
